Generally Available: Prescaling in Azure Firewall

Azure Firewall now supports prescaling, a feature that enables admins to provision and reserve capacity units in advance to handle expected traffic loads – such as seasonal peaks or planned business events. This helps to ensure consistent throughput, faster scaling response, and greater control over capacity.  

Key highlights: 

• Proactive planning: Pre-allocate capacity to meet demand spikes and critical workloads 

• New observability metric: View current and historical capacity usage in the Observed Capacity Metric to provide strategic insight into planning 

• Flexible billing: Pay only for the provisioned capacity units, with the flexibility to adjust as your needs evolve. 

Prescaling is available for Azure Firewall Standard and Premium SKUs in all public regions.
